In New Super Mario Bros. U joins Mario, Luigi, and Toad with a new character—you! As your Mii, you can run, jump, and stomp your way through Mario’s next adventure in a 2D side-scrolling game. Explore a giant world map filled with new courses and discover new ways to play.

Transform into Flying Squirrel Mario to glide across levels and climb walls, or grab hold of Balloon Baby Yoshi to float lightly through the air. Colorful Yoshis and new power-ups offer a fresh take on the Mushroom Kingdom, but there's still plenty of familiar features to enjoy.

With the Wii U gamepad (not included), multiplayer is more fun than ever. Up to four players with Wii Remote controllers (not included) can run and jump through all-new levels, while an additional player joins the party using assisted gameplay on the gamepad. With assisted gameplay, the player controlling the gamepad (not included) can tap the touch screen to place platforms on the TV screen, adding an exciting new twist to classic gameplay. Players can work together to clear a course or go on a wild goose chase to collect coins and power-ups, carefully avoiding blocks placed by the gamepad player! If you choose to work together, assisted gameplay lets you strategically place platforms to access hidden areas or find shortcuts in levels. Work together to navigate courses that can only be reached by working together, and set new high scores or times with family and friends.

In New Super Mario Bros. U , a wide range of game modes give you plenty of opportunities to test your skills. In Turbo Run mode, courses scroll automatically, increasing in speed as you collect coins. Two to five players must work together to complete the course as quickly as possible, and then you can watch replays of other players' runs, giving you ideas for your next attempt.

To test your skills, try Challenge Mode. Play Time Trial, 1-Up Rally, and more alone or with friends to set new records and unlock new challenges. Learn how to improve your playstyle in Challenge Mode with the challenges offered, and watch the replay after completing each challenge to develop better strategies for future races.

Unleash your competitive spirit in Coin Hunt Mode. Two to four players can go head-to-head or team-based to try to collect as many coins as possible, while an additional player can use assist play to place platforms to help or hinder a particular player. The Coin Editor allows the gamepad player to place coins wherever they want, creating new gameplay experiences every time.
