TRANSFORMERS: THE GAME - PS2 (RESTART)

Inspired by the recent Armada toy series rather than the classic 80's animated series, Transformers The Game is a great title that doesn’t rely solely on the fame of the license to be successful. Older players will surely be struck by a moment of nostalgia at the simple sight of vehicles that transform into robots, while younger players will have the opportunity to appreciate characters like Optimus Prime and Megaton, who they already got to know thanks to the toy series recently produced by Hasbro.

Divided into two factions, the good Autobots, and the evil Decepticons, the Transformers are giant mechanical warriors who have been fighting each other for centuries. Bringing the battle to Earth in the near future, 2010 to be precise, Atari brings these two factions to face each other in huge, detailed environments just waiting to be explored.

Starting with just one weapon, you'll control one of three characters, Optimus Prime, Hot Shot, or Red Alert, on a mission to recover "Mini-Cons" before they fall into the hands of the Decepticons. These small, powerful robots augment your equipment with weapons like missiles, cannons, precision goggles, and defensive upgrades that increase shield strength.

You'll need to make some serious tactical decisions throughout the game, as you can only use up to four Mini-Cons at a time, one per shoulder button. Some configurations are more useful in certain situations, for example, the Glider Mini-Con lets you traverse levels at double the speed. Experimenting with different combinations will pay off when facing off against tougher enemies, and the Glider is essential for reaching some otherwise inaccessible areas of the game.

Whichever Autobot you decide to control, you'll be amazed by the quality of the transformation animations. While we've never seen a 20-foot-tall robot transform into a truck in the real world, we're sure that if we had, it would have been like this. Giant robots with huge weapons... what could be better?
