Control via multitouch display
PS Vita features a particularly powerful OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) display, which offers the user full multi-touch functionality with a screen diagonal of 12.7 cm. In combination with the multi-touchpad on the back, a diverse gaming experience is created: users can interact directly with games using three-dimensional finger gestures such as touching, grabbing, steering, pushing and pulling. Two additional analog sticks ensure that PS Vita is perfect for a wide range of portable games, including popular genres such as shooters, action games and fighting games.

First games
Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios has already announced a number of exciting new titles that will take advantage of the unique capabilities of the PS Vita. These include: GRAVITY DAZE, Uncharted Golden Abyss, Little Deviants, Hot Shots Golf, Reality Fighter, Hustle Kings, ModNation Racers, Wipeout 2048 and Super Stardust Delta. Many other third-party developers will also be releasing game software for the PlayStation Vita.

Online connection
Thanks to the WLAN function and numerous software applications, PS Vita users have countless opportunities to “meet” with friends and “exchange”, “play” and “discover” with them. With the “near” application pre-installed on the device, users can find out which games nearby PS Vita users are playing or have recently played and share game information with others. “near” also supports location-based gaming functions such as the gift function. Users can deposit virtual game-related items at a real-world location, which can then be picked up by other users at that exact location. The virtual items can be, for example, outfits for game characters, weapons or treasures. By exchanging these virtual items at real-world locations, PS Vita players’ portable gaming experience is enriched with a whole new dimension, while at the same time increasing social interaction within the PS Vita community.

Portable social network
Another new application will be preinstalled on PS Vita: “Party”. Party is an innovative application for voice or text chat outside of individual games. This means that users can chat even while using different games or other applications such as an Internet browser. The new social networking features of “Party” and the “near” application, which allows users to share their game information with others regardless of location, represent a new dimension in interactive communication. The basic features of PS Vita also include “Welcome Park”, a small introductory program that familiarises PS Vita users with the new interface, especially the touchscreen and multi-touchpad on the back of the device. With “Welcome Park” you can quickly learn the three-dimensional finger gestures on PS Vita.
