Magic: The Gathering represents a turning point in the world of board games. Magic is the most famous creation of the visionary Richard Garfield, the father of a whole series of titles that have made entire generations of boys and girls dream and have fun. From its center, the historical Dominaria, to the darkest shores, dominated by immeasurable beings, by demons, by hordes of emotionless biomachines, passing through lush worlds, rich in different cultures, by city-worlds, worlds where nature dominates unchallenged, where magic flows visibly or where giants and divinities walk among mortals.
The game, in detail, consists of a battle between wizards (two, or more) who summon creatures and use spells to impose their will. Each player starts (in the most common version of the game) with 20 life points and aims to reduce those of the opponent to zero. To do so , he draws pure power, called mana, from the land itself , to use it for his own ends. In technical terms, he plays special cards (Lands) that he can use to play the others (be they creatures, artifacts, spells, or other). But Lands and cards are not all the same: one of the great strengths of this game is in fact represented by the concept of color . Excluding the cards that do not have one, There are five colors of magic :
- The White of light, of order, of fanaticism;
- The Blue of deception, water and intellect;
- The Black of shadow, death and ambition;
- The Red of chaos, fury and freedom;
- The Green of nature, of life and of brute force.
Played alone or combined, each of these colors produces a different style of play. Where White, for example, plays many small creatures, Green focuses on a few powerful beasts; where Blue is slow and calculating, Red is fast and burns like fire.
