December 2021, Tokyo court. Akihiro Ehara is accused of molesting a woman on a crowded train. A bystander's video of his attempted escape and subsequent arrest is all over the news, as the public calls for the maximum sentence.
"Three days ago you should have found a body in an abandoned building in Yokohama. Have you identified it yet?" the defendant proclaims as the courtroom descends into chaos. His defense attorney, Saori Shirosaki, has no doubt that crucial details of the situation have been overlooked, given that Ehara has not even been tried for murder.
He then contacts detective Takayuki Yagami to investigate further. How could Ehara have committed two crimes at the same time? Was the molestation on the train just a cover? Did Ehara deceive the entire justice system? As new victims surface and the search for the truth becomes more murky, Yagami is plagued by a doubt: should he honor the law or administer justice? It only takes one false step to turn into a monster...
