Ten years after Inazuma Eleven 3, the young talent Arion Sherwind is about to wear the Raimon High jersey. It's his first day and he can't wait to be part of the famous school soccer team, but when a strange boy appears on the field, Arion realizes that the team is in danger of being dismantled by the Fifth Sector, the sinister organization that runs youth soccer. It's time to react!

Once you join the school soccer team, it's time to recruit players, but you'll need to be smart, because you won't just pick good players - you'll need real stars! There are two ways to create your team - either by defeating another team in a five-on-five challenge to receive a request to join from an opposing player, or by purchasing PalPack cards from retailers. PalPack cards are presentation cards for new players, complete with stats and recruitment requirements. As you play, you'll come across over a thousand players, but your team can only have 16 players and the entire roster can only contain 110 players, so you'll need to choose carefully!

When it's time to take to the field, you'll have two types of matches to choose from - ten-minute matches between teams of 11 players, or five-on-five challenges where you have just one minute to achieve a specific objective, such as scoring a goal. You'll use the stylus to move your player around the pitch and tap the screen to shoot, pass, or tackle an opposing player. During tackles, the game pauses so you can study your opponent and use the best technique - tackling or dribbling.

Special moves are also back, allowing you to assign up to six super-powerful anime-style moves to each player, which you can obtain during the story or when certain players level up. And if that wasn't enough, there are also the brand new Fighting Spirits, which improve the player's stats and allow you to use even more powerful special moves to finally defeat the opposing team.

When you're not on the field, you can explore the area, snoop around, and talk to people to find out everything that's going on at the school. As you progress through the game, you can also visit Inazuma Town, the shopping mall, or the Royal Academy!

In addition to saving Raimon Jr. High from the clutches of the Fifth Sector, there are many other challenges that await you. You can trade players in Story Mode or test your skills by facing off against up to three friends locally, including two-on-two matches. You can also obtain new players and items online via SpotPass, or use StreetPass to obtain information on other players' teams and challenge them.
