Rage Racer

This is Namco's third title in the Racer series, and in some ways it's similar. The third Ridge Racer game again features three tracks, with each course starting from the same starting line and then developing into a completely separate track. Each course takes you through a multitude of ancient landmarks, cities, and natural wonders such as lighthouses, tunnels, waterfalls, ruins, European-style villages, and more.

TRACKS: Rage Racer features four tracks, which can be raced either backward or forward. Compared to previous games, Rage Racer's tracks are very long and detailed, with the exception of "The Extreme Oval" at 3,074 m. The remaining three tracks are "Mythical Coast" (4,641 m), "Over Pass City" (6,640 m), and "Lakeside Gate" (6,237 m). Rage Racer was also one of the few games in the series to not feature an on-screen map during the race. "Mythical Coast" features a wide variety of curves and hills, and is suited to a versatile vehicle like the Gnade Esperanza. "Over Pass City" features many steep climbs and is suited to high-acceleration Lizard vehicles. "Lakeside Gate" is a technical and twisty course, best suited to quick-handling Age cars. "The Extreme Oval" is a flat oval with wide, banked turns. The high-speed Assoluto cars are more at home on this track.

VEHICLES: There are four car manufacturers in Rage Racer. Each manufacturer emphasizes a different attribute. Age cars are lightweight and have excellent handling. Lizard cars favor large-displacement engines with high torque, giving their cars great acceleration. Assoluto cars are designed with maximum power and top speed in mind. The only Gnade car, the Esperanza, is an all-rounder with average stats in every area. With the exception of Gnade, each manufacturer has three "standard" cars and one "secret" car. The three "standard" Age cars are the Grade 2 Erriso (Alouette in the Japanese version), the Grade 3 Abeille, and the Grade 4 Pegase. The only Gnade car is the Esperanza. This is the first car given to you at the beginning of the game and starts at Rank 1. Lizard produces the Rank 2 Acceron, the Rank 3 Bayonet, and the Rank 4 Hijack. The Absolute cars are the Rank 3 Fatalita, the Rank 4 Instant, and the Rank 5 Cheetah.

All "standard" cars can be upgraded, with the cost increasing significantly from tier to tier. The highest tier to which cars can be upgraded is Tier 5. This means that the Cheetah Absolute cannot be upgraded, as it is a standard Tier 5 car.

GAME MODES: 1 - Grand Prix: Offers players the chance to race through five different race classes, earning medals and credits along the way. Credits can be used to purchase new tires, paint jobs, and logos, or players can use credits to purchase newer, more powerful cars.

Classes 1 and 2 (both normal and reverse) consist of three tracks, while Classes 3, 4, 5, and 6 add an additional track to these.

To play, you must race on all tracks in the class and finish in the top three on each. You can play the tracks in any order to achieve this goal. You'll earn a gold, silver, or bronze medal for each track depending on your position. Once you have a medal for each track, you can advance to the next class, where the prize money for racing is higher and more cars become available for purchase.

At the start, there's only one car in your collection. After earning some money in races, you can upgrade this car or visit the car shop.

As players progress through Rage Racer, they will gradually unlock the ability to race on each course backward, effectively doubling the number of tracks. 2 - Against the Clock Here, you can race on all the tracks you've acquired, with all the cars you've purchased. Your cars will be at the highest rank you achieved during Grand Prix mode. There doesn't appear to be a way to change the cars' paint colors or their ranks once in this mode. Records of the top five overall times and lap times for each track are kept, indicating the car used for each.
