In Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere the player takes the role of an ace fighter pilot working for an organization called "UPEO" and must carry out various missions, such as eliminating a special aircraft carrier or eliminating enemy satellite systems orbiting the Earth. The player can earn ratings from A to D: the higher the rating, the higher the chance the player can acquire new types of aircraft. The game has many environments ranging from normal air missions to stratospheric missions and even space missions. A special problem is that the player often has to make decisions during missions that affect the overall plot. There is also an autopilot function that can be used to land or reach a destination.
