As is traditional in the Pokémon series, players will choose from three Pokémon to join them as their first partner in the brand-new Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon games early on in the game. These three Pokémon are the newly discovered Pokémon: Rowlet, a Grass- and Flying-type Pokémon, Litten, a Fire-type Pokémon, and Popplio, a Water-type Pokémon.
As Trainers, both new and experienced, know that knowing a Pokémon’s types is vital in battle! Grass-type Pokémon are strong against Water-type Pokémon, but weak against Fire-type Pokémon. Fire-type Pokémon have an advantage over Grass-type Pokémon, but they are at a disadvantage against Water-type Pokémon. Water-type Pokémon are stronger against Fire-type Pokémon, but they have a harder time against Grass-type Pokémon.
The first of the three Pokémon that can be chosen as a partner is Rowlet, the grass-winged Pokémon that can battle in various scenarios. It can approach its opponent unnoticed by gliding silently from the sky and then attack it with powerful kicks, or it can attack from a distance by drawing razor-sharp leaves from its feathers! Rowlet surveys its surroundings by rotating its neck almost 180 degrees, thus keeping an eye on what is happening behind it. During battle, it has the habit of turning its head toward its Trainer to await instructions.
The second starter Pokémon we are introduced to is Litten, the Fire Cat Pokémon, sleek and controlled in battle. Its highly flammable, oily fur is a powerful weapon. It keeps it in order by constantly licking itself and accumulating furballs in its belly that will allow it to launch fiery attacks! When it sheds, its fur ignites in a spectacular blaze.
The third and final starter Pokémon is Popplio, the acrobatic Sea Lion Pokémon. This Pokémon uses the water balloons it creates from its nose to perform spectacular attacks during battle. In water, it moves with agility and can swim at over 40 km/h. On land, however, it is more clumsy, but uses the elasticity of its water balloons to perform acrobatic jumps and figures.
With Pokémon Bank , you can transfer Pokémon you've caught in the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console versions of Pokémon Red , Pokémon Blue , and Pokémon Yellow: Special Pikachu Edition to your copy of Pokémon Sun or Pokémon Moon . Pokémon from Pokémon Omega Ruby , Pokémon Alpha Sapphire , Pokémon X , and Pokémon Y can also be transferred to Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon in the same way.
