Giving credence to the sayings that circulate about the number three (which is sometimes magical, sometimes enchanting and, apparently, a number to which many things can be traced back), Insomniac Games pulls out of its hat the sequel to the immensely popular Ratchet & Clank 2: Fire at Will .

In this tale of interplanetary espionage and adventure, Ratchet & Clank sees weapons expert Ratchet and his robotic sidekick Clank join forces for another mission to the Lombax homeworld of Veldin, this time to save all organic life in the universe.

After their previous adventures, Ratchet and Clank have earned themselves intergalactic fame, with the diminutive robot now starring in his own TV series, Secret Agent Clank, with Ratchet reluctantly acting as his sidekick (a role he doesn't seem to be too happy about). But when the Galactic President contacts the pair requesting their help in saving the universe - again - the oddball interstellar duo puts aside their 'creative differences' and sets out to battle Dr Nefarious - a robotic supervillain with plans for interplanetary conquest.

While the gameplay remains fundamentally identical to that of previous adventures, Ratchet & Clank 3 boasts a mix of different gameplay styles that keep the action fresh and enjoyable, while still focusing on platforming exploration. You'll also have the opportunity to test your rhythm skills, while new vehicles add even more variety to the action, with the Dropship, Hovertank and Turbo Slide all available to unlock.

These vehicles really come into their own in multiplayer arenas, where all hell can be unleashed in split-screen mode. Pick up your gear and dive into the vibrant, gorgeously whimsical environments, find your target, get your trigger finger ready, and... BOOM!

Yes, the legendary firearms are back too, with some brilliant tweaks and twists to the classic collection. Take out your friends and dish out tons of humiliation armed with one of the myriad of devastating and hilarious devices at your disposal - the Suction Cannon, the RYNO III and the all-new Plasma Whip are all jostling for a place in your burgeoning arsenal.

By taking platforming to an impressive level of depth, Insomniac Games has managed to create one of the most messy and genuinely fun gaming experiences. Ratchet & Clank 3 will keep you glued to the monitor for hours, days, weeks and maybe even months with its incredibly detailed and rich single player mode.
