The Getaway takes you to the underworld of modern London, a world filled with the wretched, gangsters and outcasts of society. Mark Hammond, a former criminal turned businessman, is drawn back into the criminal underworld after his son is kidnapped by the feared crime boss Charlie Jolson. With his son's life at risk, Hammond is forced to fall back into his old ways and complete Jolson's dirty jobs while running, ducking and ducking to avoid being caught by the police. Using both Hammond and Frank Carter, a cop from the Flying Squad, your job is to free Hammond's son and stop Jolson. It's a violent and dangerous mission that takes place in Charlie's East End, a seemingly ordinary art gallery, Hyde Park, a crack factory south of the river and many other locations you won't find in the average London guidebook.

In an attempt to fulfill Jolson's increasingly crazy requests, you will have to face a series of missions across the city, often chased by the police. The city of London, recreated with an incredible level of detail thanks to the use of thousands of photos, can be crossed on foot or by car, there are a total of 60 vehicles to "acquire" (read steal), all with different characteristics and reactions to commands. The vehicles vary from the simple Nissan Micra to the Lexus IS20, from the police Vectra to the old, and always charming, black taxi.

With a plot that hits and that does not spare itself in describing the violence of London's criminal underworld, The Getaway It is definitely a product for a mature audience. The engaging story, interpreted by a cast of professional actors, blends with the game creating a perfect mix and making The Getaway a cinematic title like no other. Realism is a big part of the game, with no health bars, ammo meters, or other on-screen indicators to distract from the action. If your character gets hit, he bleeds and slows down trying to staunch the wound; if you're being chased at high speed while driving toward your target, indicators on your car will show you the best route. Everything is designed to suck you into the world of The Getaway and keep you glued to the screen.

Having taken almost three years to make, The Getaway represents a milestone in video game production. The list of technical innovations in graphics, animations and even motion capture is too long to list here, but the results speak for themselves. Visually, The Getaway It's absolutely outstanding; the level of detail put into the city of London is incredible, while the classic gangster movie style of storytelling adds surprising depth to the winning mix of driving and action.
