Blood Omen 2 takes place 400 years after the end of the original Blood Omen , when Kain chooses to be damned and dominate the world rather than sacrifice himself to save it and die for it.

Kain has placed himself at the head of a powerful army that marches forcefully on the land of Nosgoth to take full possession, but another leader, Lord Sarafan, leading a legion of the damned, sides against Kain and defeats him in a bloody battle. Lord Sarafan kills Kain in a duel to the death and steals his Soul Reaver before throwing him into a deep abyss. But Kain is not dead, he is ready to return and avenge his defeat...
