FIA licensed Formula One racing game featuring the teams, drivers, cars and circuits from the 2005 season. The player controls the car on the track and attempts to complete a lap in the fastest time possible, or race against computer-controlled drivers (or in multiplayer mode, against other players) and finish in first place. The game can be played in Quick Grand Prix, Event, World Championship and Multiplayer modes. Quick Grand Prix selects a random car and circuit to race on. Event modes are Time Attack (racing against ghost cars), Single Grand Prix and Scenario Mode where the player must complete different types of racing tasks such as completing a lap with broken brakes and returning to the pits to repair them. Each successfully completed scenario unlocks the next one. Additional scenarios are available for download on the PSP. World Championship mode allows the player to choose the team to race for and the difficulty of the championship season. All 19 circuits from the 2005 F1 season are raced in order and points are awarded for finishing in positions 1-8. The driver with the most points at the end of the season wins the championship. Before each race the player can do practice laps to get familiar with the track and the car setup. The player can also drive a single-lap qualifying race that will determine the grid position at the start of the race. The difficulty levels (easy, medium, hard) define the total number of laps, weather conditions, pit stops and tire wear. Initially only the easy level is selectable and must be successfully completed in the top three to unlock the medium level. Likewise, the medium level must be completed in the top three to unlock the hard level. The Single Grand Prix event is also unlocked by successfully completing the easy level. In multiplayer, up to 8 players can play in three different race types. As in the single-player Time Attack, each car races against a top-time ghost car. Both Head to Head and Single Grand Prix modes allow players to race a single grand prix, with the difference that in the latter mode computer-controlled AI drivers are added to fill the grid if fewer than eight players enter. The F1 Grand Prix also includes a TV mode race where AI cars race against each other and the player has no control other than selecting the camera view. All cars from the 2005 season are initially available, but the game has unlockable F1 cars from past years, such as the Lotus-Climax 25, Williams FW11 turbo, and the classic Cosworth Lotus-Ford 79 and Williams FW08. The overall gameplay style is more arcade than simulation, e.g. collisions do not cause noticeable damage, after a spin the car is automatically steered in the right direction, and driving off the track slows the car down. A simple car setup system has three presets: defensive, balanced, and aggressive. The player can also enable Brake Assist which automatically applies the brakes when cornering if the speed is too high.
