Donald and Goofy, though computer-controlled, will prove useful in combat—the feathered wizard is skilled at casting offensive and defensive spells, while the toothy knight will not hesitate to use his shield to mete out justice.

In Kingdom Hearts , Square abandons the turn-based system of Final Fantasy in favor of a real-time combat method that recalls the frenetic and exciting succession of duels of Capcom's Onimusha. Thanks to the extremely intuitive 'lock-on' system of the target, Sora can easily switch from one enemy to another, forcing them to surrender with simple combinations to activate. But typical elements of role-playing games are not missing - Sora can level up by buying the experience of defeated enemies, which will also allow him to learn new moves and useful spells. All reinterpreted in a Disney perspective, so much so that, once Sora has acquired the power to summon, characters such as Simba, Bambi, Tinker Bell, Mushu and even the Genie from Aladdin will come to lend him a hand.

And you'll have plenty of time to use your new powers, as you visit a variety of different worlds aboard Donald and Goofy's Gummi Ship, filled with a myriad of colorful characters you can befriend or cross swords with. Settings include Halloween Town (The Nightmare Before Christmas), the Jungle (Tarzan), Agrabah (Aladdin), the Hundred Acre Wood (Winnie the Pooh), Neverland (Peter Pan), the Coliseum of Olympus (Hercules), Wonderland (Alice in Wonderland), and Atlantica (The Little Mermaid), each populated by a host of familiar faces, both friendly and hostile.
