SECOND HAND

VERY GOOD. Tested and fully functional - only slight signs of wear with original outer packaging ( instruction booklet missing )

The first one gave birth to a new genre. The second one was multiplayer perfection. The third one was small, but well proportioned. And the fourth chapter of the series Mario Kart ? It's Mario Kart Double Dash , a title that has all the hallmarks of its predecessors, but adds a whole lot more. The character roster is packed with familiar faces - long-time racers Mario, Luigi, Peach and Yoshi, who have all appeared at various times in the Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64 and Game Boy Advance, wouldn't have missed this new incarnation on Nintendo GameCube for anything. But there are also plenty of new faces looking to get in on the high-speed fun! So prepare yourself for a truly crowded character selection screen. You'll find Baby Mario, Baby Luigi, the Koopa Troopers (welcome back!), Diddy Kong, Waluigi and more, for a total of no less than 16 racers.

Why so many? Partly because, for the first time in the history of the game, there must be two characters per kart (and there are no limits to the combinations of pairs!). Also, the choice of car is independent of the choice of drivers. Peach and Daisy can join forces and drive Donkey Kong's rickety wooden car. Peach's pink vintage car can accommodate the pair of Baby Mario and Waluigi, while Bowser can race around in Wario's funny little grinder (with Mario in the back seat). The possibilities are practically endless, but always hilarious. After the traditional countdown at the starting line, performed by little Lakitu, you'll have control of the car with both its occupants. The controls are more precise than ever - the Control Stick and the L and R buttons let you slide, accelerate, dodge and bounce your way around all the courses with breathtaking ease. But it's the Z Button that unlocks the true potential of Mario Kart Double Dash , allowing your characters to swap places. It works like this - when you hit a rainbow-colored object, the passenger grabs the power-up and carries it aboard (you can even see the characters grab it with their hands - awesome!).

However, since each character of Mario Kart Double Dash has access to a personal super-power-up that can wreak havoc – such as Bowser’s colossal spiked shell or Donkey Kong’s enormous banana peel – you’ll need to use your strategic skills to decide which of your two racers should sit in the back when you pick up an item. Plus, passengers who grab items will continue to hold on to them when they’re transferred to the driver’s seat (big pockets, you see!), so storing items and using them in the most cunning ways is the best and most hilarious tactic you can think of. The animations? Amazing. Racers exchange glances as they overtake rivals, while passengers in the back hold on tightly to their seats (and for dear life) as they’re thrown out of the car due to some rather questionable maneuvers. When you watch the individual wheels of eight vehicles spin and bounce in response to steering inputs that you can actually see turning left and right directed by the (divinely animated) hands of plumbers, dinosaurs, turtles and princesses, you'll know you're in the presence of pure genius.

The slopes of Mario Kart Double Dash have been laid out by Nintendo's finest landscape designers. The twists and turns, bumps and slopes are all laid out in rollercoaster-riding courses, with hair-raising dangers aplenty, like the barking Chain Chomp that tries to catch you during the Luigi Grand Prix, or the long, Wiggler-shaped vehicles that patrol the highways of Mushroom City. Light-filled stadiums, lush jungles with dangerously swinging wooden bridges, and courses set in the cities and beaches of Isle Delfina are just a few of the vistas you'll catch a glimpse of as they speed past you. And your eyes will be clouded by the speed. Nintendo connoisseurs will light up with joy when they see the return of the classic Mario universe feature where 'everything has eyes' appears in the beautiful environments that the courses traverse: anthropomorphic hills, clouds and flowers that smile in a friendly way as you speed by, and even a volcano that glares menacingly, as only a volcano can, at the cars that bounce up its slopes.

But Mario Kart wouldn't be Mario Kart if it didn't give you and your friends the chance to howl with joy as you swoon over multiple controllers. And Mario Kart Double Dash 's carefully balanced cars, tracks, and power-ups (in addition to the trusty combat mode that will have you sharpening your weapons) offer you multiplayer fun never seen before.
