Following the Shadow Moses Incident, top-secret Metal Gear technology was leaked to the black market through the machinations of Revolver Ocelot. As a result, variants of Metal Gear began appearing all over the world, making the weapon a "standard" issue for nuclear-armed nations. In this context, Solid Snake, now a member of the anti-Metal Gear group known as "Philanthropy", has discovered that the US Navy has developed a new prototype of Metal Gear, which is about to be secretly transferred. To gain more information on this new prototype, and with the help of Otacon, also a member of "Philanthropy", via Codec, Snake must infiltrate the tanker carrying the Metal Gear, which is traveling down the Hudson River in New York. However, just as his mission begins, Snake realizes that the prototype has been besieged by a mysterious group of armed men.

Set in 1964, at the height of the Cold War, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater will take the player to a new context for the saga created by Hideo Kojima - a wild jungle where the fight for survival will be very hard not only due to the presence of aggressive enemy soldiers but also due to coexistence with an inhospitable and always dangerous environment.
