This episode aims to improve all the features of its predecessor starting from the gameplay (with greater realism in all phases of the game) to get to the enhanced graphics engine.

The game has been sped up and the sideline feints have been improved. This year's new feature is called hotspot, a system to discover the best areas of the pitch to shoot from. Another new feature is the ability to perform a rebound by directing the player's arms in a specific direction, increasing the chances of recovering the ball after a missed shot. In defence, it is now possible to change schemes at maximum speed, opting for different man-to-man tactics, zone tactics or diversifying marking.

The introduction of Go to Moves, the classic movements of the superstars have been inserted into the game through motion capture to reproduce the real movements of the most important NBA champions.
