With Nintendo's latest Pokémon prank, both experienced Pokémon fans and beginners can experience completely new adventures. For the first time in the history of the cult series, each of the two editions offers its own unknown areas to explore. In Unova, far from the well-known regions of Kanto and Johto, players roam through new and action-packed locations, such as the urban environment of the bustling metropolis of Stratos City. In the new editions - for the first time in the game series - the seasons make themselves felt. The game world is constantly evolving: some Pokémon, for example, appear more or less frequently depending on the season and also change color and shape. Some areas are also only accessible at certain times of the year.

As if that wasn't enough, players will encounter 150 never-before-seen Pokémon. Some of them only appear in one of the two versions of the game. Two of them are the Legendary Pokémon Reshiram and Zekrom. Reshiram, only present in the Black Edition, is capable of setting everything around it on fire. It is even said to be able to change the atmosphere itself with the heat of the flames. Zekrom, on the other hand, appears only in the White Edition; it can generate electricity, fly, and disappear into thunderclouds.

At the start of the game, Nintendo DS fans can decide whether they want to embark on their adventure as a male or female Pokémon Trainer. There are also three Pokémon to choose from at the start: the Grass-type Pokémon Serpifeu, the Fire-type Pokémon Floink, and the Water-type Pokémon Ottaro. Once players have made their choice, they set off alongside two childhood friends.

In each version, there are two tasks to complete. On the one hand, you have to complete the Unova Pokédex, which means finding and catching all the Pokémon in the region. This task can only be completed if the owners of the different editions trade with each other. The second task is to become the Pokémon League champion by competing against all the wild Pokémon and Pokémon Trainers in the region. Players always train their Pokémon with the goal of defeating the top four and the Unova champion. Thanks to the brand-new connection features, players can also improve their battle skills via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection in the Casual Match mode.
