Pokémon HeartGold is an enhanced remake of one of the second installments in the main Pokémon role-playing series, Pokémon Gold. Set in the Johto region, the player controls a new Pokémon Trainer who travels to meet Pokémon researcher Professor Elm in his laboratory to receive their first Pokémon. While running an errand for Elm, the player returns to discover that a thief has stolen one of the professor's Pokémon. This event begins your quest to become a Pokémon master, leading you through the Johto region and later Kanto, to battle the mysterious Team Rocket and capture all 493 Pokémon. In addition to retaining most of the features from the original game, HeartGold contains several new updates. Like Gold, the story will incorporate the Legendary Pokémon Ho-Oh (which can be seen in the game's box art), albeit in a larger form this time. The graphics have been updated to 3D models to resemble previous iterations of the Nintendo DS series, Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum. The ability to have any of your Pokémon follow you around the Overworld screen, previously seen in Pokémon Yellow, has been added. Included in the game is a peripheral known as a Pokéwalker. Acting as a pedometer, the Pokéwalker allows you to wirelessly transfer a Pokémon from HeartGold to it. When a Pokémon is in the Pokéwalker, it will earn "experience points" for each step you take. The player also earns a form of money known as "watts," which is used to catch other Pokémon and purchase items. The game is compatible with the following games via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection: Pokémon SoulSilver, Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum.
