PES 2008 features an AI system, called Teamvision, that adapts and reacts to players' different playstyles to ensure that computer-controlled opponents always challenge the player by forcing them to change their style to avoid counter-moves. The system learns to formulate counter-attacks that target your weaknesses, trying to exploit any repetitive tactics players use.

Defenders react better to dangerous situations, closing down spaces and blocking offensive moves, while goalkeepers are better at blocking even the closest shots. Teammates move more intelligently around the pitch, and close ball control has been refined to allow for quick, fluid passes and create quick offensive moves.

The PlayStation 3 version offers extensive editing modes that allow players to completely customize their experience in PES 2008 , placing itself directly at the heart of the action.
