Joe and his girlfriend Silvia are spending an evening at the cinema to watch an adventure of their favorite superhero, Captain Blue, when something mysterious happens - Silvia is sucked into the screen by a celluloid monster. In a heroic attempt to save her, Joe also throws himself into the world of the film. While searching for Silvia, Captain Blue gives him the powerful V-Watch, thus transforming him into the unbeatable superhero Viewtiful Joe.

Viewful Joe possesses the unique ability to use special visual effects, or VFX, that can speed up his movements, slow down time, or zoom in on enemies before unleashing devastating combos.
